Yas Drag Roll Racing: Feel the Thrill

Drag racing comes alive with a punch and a rush of adrenaline when you participate in the Yas Drag Roll Racing event.

It may not be as regal a sport as F1® racing, but it’s an exciting sport involving speed and precision all the same. Drag racing is the ultimate thrill ride for amateur drivers and wannabe racers. For the uninitiated, drag racing is a sport in which two racing cars compete side by side in a contest of acceleration. The two drivers pit their brains and cars against each other as they drive in a straight line for a usual distance of about 1/8^th mile. The first to reach the finish line wins the drag race.

Drag racing does not require special driving skills or any kind of racing knowledge whatsoever. In some countries, even children as young as 8 years old participate in junior drag race events. You need to be relatively fit and healthy to be able to drag race, and you need serious skills if you want to compete at an expert level. Mostly, drag racing is looked at more as a recreational activity.

In recent years, drag racing has become extremely popular around the world. In the UAE too, you will find hordes of enthusiastic racers making their way to the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi to polish up old skills and learn new ones. The Yas Marina Circuit boasts of an impressive track where you can drag race in complete safety, and also get a lesson beforehand from an experienced driver. You can also hire racing gear (helmets, gloves, overalls) but you must wear your own training shoes to the race.

This year, too, the Yas Drag Roll Racing event promises to be a spectacular event, with a lot of enthusiastic participation from all quarters. The numbers of wannabe racers have gone up dramatically in Abu Dhabi, and they get to practice on one of the best and most professionally-run arenas in the world.

As part of the Yas Marina Experiences package, you can enjoy the beautiful waterfront Marina with a spirited showing at the Yas Drag Roll Racing event. Take a spin around the beautiful race track revered by racing geniuses from around the world. Kit yourself out carefully for the race and register on time (it gets full really quickly!) If you want, you can also get private coaching from an experienced racer just before you take the wheel, choosing between an Aston Martin, Ferrari or Mercedes as your weapon of choice.

Next, book a slot for the available races: Drag Night, Freestyle Drift Night or Yas Drag Roll Racing. You get to drive around for a minimum of 30 minutes beforehand in the Arrive and Drive segment: this helps you acclimatise yourself to the track. You can also participate in the bike track day if you like bike racing as well.
