Japanese automobile major, Toyota Motors, has
introduced an upgraded version of its highly popular Innova model. The company
has not only added a lot more style but also a better muscular design and named
it the Toyota Innova
Crysta. A step up from the original, the new Crysta is based
on Toyota’s new TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform. The vehicle is
expected to compete with the Mahindra XUV 500 and the Tata Hexa.
New Stylish Exteriors
The new Crysta has a boxy MPV design with a lower roof,
making the vehicle look longer. The styling of all the variants is the same,
with a huge two-slat hexagonal grille with wide double barrel projector-halogen
headlamps (with DRLs) on either side. The rear has a set of boomerang shaped
tail lamps under the rear windscreen, along with neat sheet metal curves, a
roof spoiler, and a bumper design which allows for easier and wider access to
the boot.
The 16 inch alloy wheels are the new addition and have
been included in all the variants of the Crysta, as compared to the 17 inch
wheels in the ZX variant earlier.
New and Comfortable
Interiors
In terms of the interiors, the new Toyota Innova has
all black interiors, except for the top-spec automatic variant, which has tan
coloured upholstery. The cabin is packed with new features, including power
windows, automatic climate control, a new touch screen infotainment system with
navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, and USB. An automatic climate control
system with a blower for rear passengers is another inclusion in this new
Innova.
The new vehicle also has a lot of storage space,
besides tables for the second row and 12-volt sockets for the third row. This
SUV also gets disc brakes up front. Safety features include dual front airbags
with knee airbag, ABS and EBD in all the variants. The automatic variants get
hill assist and ESP features too.
Engine Transmission
and Mileage
Available in two diesel and one petrol variants, the Crysta
also comes with projector headlamps. The 2.4-litre diesel unit producing 147bhp
and 360Nm of torque and is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The 2.8-litre
mill develops 174bhp of power at 3400rpm and 360Nm of torque from as low as
1200rpm and is mated to an automatic gearbox.
The petrol version comes with a 2.7-litre motor that’s
good for 166bhp at 5200rpm and 245Nm of torque at 4000rpm, and is offered with
either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.
The upgrade in the Innova’s exteriors, interiors, colour
options and its advanced safety features make the Toyota Innova Crysta a worthy
buy.
